Pharos

I have been fascinated by Lighthouses for many years and have decided to do something about it.

This project will develop a fulldome HDR timelapse documentary about Tasmania’s lighthouses. There are many of them in some of the most remarkable, picturesque and remote parts of the island – as well as on many satellite islands – a complete list is here: http://www.lighthouse.net.au/lights/TAS/Index%20TAS.asp

This, like most of my projects, is a labour of love – currently unburdened by any budget, but hopefully that will change.

My first reconnoitre to Maatsuyker Island give rise to this short impressionistic documentary.

An impressionistic trip to the lighthouse at Maatsuyker Island off the far South-West coast of Tasmania. An extraordinarily beautiful, remote place, with a remarkable history, wildlife and natural environment. The end of the movie passes De Witt Island – a mysterious place – and the far Southern coast. This was a $0-budget production – I’ve wanted to go there for years & it was a wonderful adventure with a bunch of great people. It takes about 4hrs over rough seas, so, um, emetic if you don’t have sea-legs.

Many thanks to the Friends of Maatsuyker Island & Wildcare Tasmania – very worthwhile causes to preserve the limits of humanity and the wild.
